TEEN THERAPY IN CHAPPAQUA, NY + NEW CANAAN, CT

Succeeding on the outside. Struggling on the inside.

The pressure to keep it together doesn't let up.

Grades matter more than ever. Practices are more competitive. College feels like it's already looming, even years out. Your teen is holding a lot — often while still trying to look like they have it together.

Maybe they're spending more time alone. They're more irritable, less interested in things they used to enjoy, or suddenly everything turns into an argument. School pressure is getting heavier. Friendships feel complicated — comparing themselves to everyone around them, or worrying constantly about what other people think.

You ask what's wrong and hear, "I'm fine."

And you're left trying to figure out when to push, when to give them space, and whether what you're seeing is typical teenage stress or something more.

  • They're withdrawing from family or friends

  • School and academic pressure has become constant

  • Sports, activities, or performance pressure keeps ratcheting up

  • Small things seem to trigger huge reactions

  • They're incredibly hard on themselves

  • Friendships or dating relationships are consuming them

  • They seem anxious, sad, angry, or simply not like themselves

Sometimes teens need someone who isn't their parent to talk to.

How therapy works

A space that's theirs—with someone who actually gets to know them.

Teen therapy starts with the relationship. Before we expect a teenager to open up, they need to feel comfortable with the person sitting across from them.

Our team at Terra bring 15+ years of combined experience working with teens, including time in inpatient and clinical settings — we know how to build that kind of trust quickly, and how to tell the difference between typical teenage stress and something that needs more support. Meet Our Team

Sessions give teens a private, nonjudgmental place to talk about what's actually happening — the pressure to perform, the friendship drama, school stress, family conflict, relationships, anxiety about the future, or the things they don't quite know how to explain.

Therapy is conversational and individualized. Along the way, we help teens better understand their emotions, notice patterns, communicate more effectively, and develop practical ways to handle anxiety, stress, pressure, and difficult moments.

Parents still matter. We'll involve you when appropriate and help you support your teen while respecting the privacy that allows a meaningful therapeutic relationship to develop.

Terra offers in-person teen therapy in Chappaqua, NY and New Canaan, CT, with virtual sessions available for teens who need that flexibility.

For teens who want to build skills alongside peers, we also offer IRL DBT, a 7-week group teaching real coping tools for real teenage situations. Learn more →
